Trouble With Keyword Search Volumes in the Keyword Planner?

The google keyword planner changed for some users in June 2016. Then it started happening for even more users.

The search volumes for keywords now appear as ranges, like 10 – 100 or 1k – 10k, instead of 110 or 320 or 5400. It’s not nearly as helpful for niche site builders.
