Optimizing your videos for the correct keywords is essential if you want then to be found in the search engines and get free traffic. If you get this wrong you’ll waste time creating videos that never rank resulting in lost traffic and subscribers.

Here’s how to do keyword research for YouTube videos

Step 1.

Find keywords that people are searching for by using YouTube’s Auto Suggestion Feature. Other tools you can use are Ubersuggest or KeywordTool.io

Step 2.

Enter your keywords in Google’s Keyword Planner Tool. Copy the list of keywords and paste them into an excel file so you can view them easily.

Step 3.

Enter your keyword in YouTube search. Make sure there is a higher number of searches than number of search results in YouTube.

If more people are searching for a term then there are search results for that term… there’s less competition for that phrase and it should be easier to rank for.

Create one video for each keyword so if you have 20 keywords create 20 videos.

Step. 4

Create a list of keyword phrases that you’ve researched. So after you’ve got a list of say 20 keywords where there is a high number of searches in Google then the search results in YouTube, then you can create videos for each of those keywords.

Step 5.

Check Google Trends to check the trends over time for that particular keyword.

Step 6.

Track the rankings of your videos so see if you’re ranking for the keywords you researched.
